Serena Deeb Reveals What WWE Asked For Before Offering Coaching Role AEW

AEW star Serena Deeb has revealed what WWE asked for before she accepted her coaching role with the company.

In 2018, Serena Deeb signed with WWE to work as a coach at the Performance Center before she was released in April 2020.

Speaking with Busted Open Radio, the AEW star revealed that when WWE hired her for the coaching position, it was with the concession that her in-ring career was over so she could focus on training new stars.

Deeb said:

“I was 30 when they hired me as a coach. I had taken a couple of years off of wrestling to do yoga. My body felt great. I remember having a conversation with one of the bosses there, and he just straight-up said ‘To accept this job, you need to really be at peace with being done in the ring.’

“It was a really tough moment for me, because it was such a great opportunity, and I love helping people. I still love coaching, I still love doing seminars and all of that. But the entire time I was coaching and I’m watching these girls, I was like ‘I want to be in there. I’m not done.’ I always felt there was unfinished business.”

Since her WWE release, Deeb has made her name for All Elite Wrestling and put on some great matches with the likes of Thunder Rosa and Hikaru Shida.

Serena Deeb will face ROH Women’s World Champion Mercedes Martinez for the gold this Saturday, July 23 at ROH Death Before Dishonor.
