Over a decade ago, Serena Deeb made her WWE debut as part of the Straight Edge Society. In a particularly memorable segment on SmackDown, she voluntarily gave up her hair to be inducted into the group.
During her recent appearance on AEW Unrestricted, Deeb revealed that WWE gave her a bonus for shaving her head. WWE stars Joey Mercury and Luke Gallows also shaved their heads to be involved in the group but Deeb was the only female member.
Deeb also revealed what her favourite moment of her first WWE run was. She named being at ringside for CM Punk’s match with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania XXVI as her favourite. Here is the quote:
“I think favorite moments, I mean, obviously doing [WrestleMania XXVI when] Punk wrestled Rey Mysterio. And actually, probably my favorite moment the entire time managing was in that match. When Punk was on the ropes ready to take the 619. Rey hit the ropes and I hopped up on the apron [to stop him], and there were 72,000 people there. It was in Phoenix, and I mean, the boos—literally across my back, I felt these boos just standing out there the apron. This little 5-foot-4 girl in this huge stadium and the people were so mad in that moment, and it was just an awesome feeling.”
Deeb was released by WWE in mid-2010 after not keeping up her on-air character in public. She was later rehired as a coach and released again before signing with AEW. She is currently the NWA Women’s Champion.
