Backstage details have emerged on the men’s Royal Rumble, including on scrapped plans for Seth Rollins to enter the bout.
In the main event of Saturday’s show, Lesnar won the men’s Rumble after entering the bout as a surprise entrant. The Beast had lost his WWE Championship to Bobby Lashley earlier in the night, following interference from Roman Reigns.
Ringside News – which made several accurate reports about Royal Rumble surprise entrants – reports that talents were informed about plans for Lesnar to win the Rumble ‘early in the day’.
Shane McMahon was reportedly the lead writer and producer for the 30-man match. Per the report, Seth Rollins was set to compete in the bout at one point, following his Universal Championship bout against Roman Reigns. The reason for these plans changing has not been confirmed, but it has been speculated it was to sell Reigns’ post-match attack.
Ringside News recently stated that there is a substantial amount of heat on Shane McMahon for trying to book the Rumble around himself. Per PWInsider, backstage morale is significantly down following Royal Rumble, due to a number of changes made to the over-the-top-rope matches.
Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar won their respective Rumble bouts, following their surprise entrances. You can view the full list of Royal Rumble 2022 surprise entrants at this link.
