Seth Rollins Opens Up About Triple H Nearly Firing Him From NXT

Seth Rollins has opened up about his early days in NXT and Triple H telling Rollins that he didn’t see “anything special” in him.

Before joining WWE, Seth Rollins had verbally agreed to join IMPACT before being talked out of it by Jim Cornette, who put him in touch with John Laurinaitis.

After talks with Laurinaitis and WWE, Rollins opted not to sign with IMPACT and go back on that verbal agreement in favor of joining WWE as part of NXT.

Terry Taylor – a mentor of Triple H – was working at IMPACT when Rollins went back on that agreement, but later actually came over to NXT to work as a trainer.

Rollins was in Taylor’s training class, and there was clearly some leftover heat there and they butted heads when Rollins disagreed with whatever Taylor was telling him to do.

As Rollins explained on Broken Skull Sessions, this led to Triple H having a few stern words with him. Rollins said:

“Hunter took me aside and was like, ‘Look, I don’t see anything special in you. If you don’t want to play ball and don’t want to work with us, you can go back to Ring of Honor and do things your way, but you need to start doing things our way’. I was like, ‘Oh man, my dream is about to go up in smoke here’.

“I go back to Joey Mercury and sat down with him and he’s like, ‘You need to understand how to play the game. It doesn’t mean you have to change who you are, but you have to play a role all the time. You’re not just on when you want to be on, you have to be on all the time. You have to find a way to give them what they want while teaching them how you do things. There is a compromise and you have to figure out how you do that’. He sat me down and talked me through that whole process.”

Rollins went on to add that, just a few months later, he was pitching to Triple H to be the first NXT Champion – which did end up happening – but knew he was one bad move away from being fired.
