Seth Rollins Comments On WWE Day 1 Plans Changing

Seth Rollins has commented on plans for his match at WWE Day 1 changing due to Roman Reigns testing positive for COVID-19 on the day of the show.

Just hours before the January 1 event, it was announced that Brock Lesnar, who was originally scheduled to face Reigns for the Universal Championship, had been added to the WWE Championship main-event. The Beast went on to win the five-way bout, pinning former champion Big E to claim the gold.

It has since been reported that Seth Rollins was originally pencilled in to win the WWE Title on January 1, and go on to defend the championship in the main event of WrestleMania 38 Night One. Speaking with TalkSPORT, Rollins admitted that it was difficult to change match plans at such short notice.

Happy with the ‘hell of a train wreck’ the five stars managed to put on for the Atlanta crowd, Rollins said:

With the Omicron variant being so highly transmissible, myself, my wife [Becky Lynch] and indeed Roman [Reigns] were fortunate enough to avoid it for quite some time, but it catches up to all of us and got us.

“Kept Roman out [of Day 1] and the company felt like they needed to give the people what they paid for whether that’s the Network subscribers or the live crowd – it was difficult. Definitely was difficult to go from a four-way to a five-way and when that extra man is Brock Lesnar, that’s a lot to account for.

“I was just happy we were able to give people their money’s worth and they felt like they weren’t jipped by losing a main event match and hopefully they got an even better main event match than they were expecting. It was a hell of a train wreck, but I was happy to be a part of it.”

Rollins is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble on Saturday. Ahead of the event, Rollins named the WWE stars that he is rooting for in the 30-man over-the-top-rope contest.
