Seth Rollins Discusses WWE Name Change

Seth Rollins Discusses WWE Name Change WWE

Seth Rollins has commented on the reason behind his name change after he first signed with WWE back in 2010.

Prior to signing a developmental contract in August 2010, Rollins was a familiar face on the independent wrestling scene as Tyler Black.

He would debut as Seth Rollins in September at FCW, the WWE developmental territory, bringing that name to television, initially on NXT and then onto the main roster.

During a recent appearance on Mohr Stories, Rollins revealed the reason for the name change and how the late Dusty Rhodes crystalized the decision.

Rollins would look at the stars who were able to come in using their own names or the ones with which they were most known, before addressing his own, saying:

“John Cena came in as John Cena before they were insistent that they own your name and character.

“There were a couple of people who got grandfathered in, CM Punk made it, John Cena made it, and they were probably like the last bastions… Randy Orton, if you were like, pre say 2004, you probably got it. Punk would have been like the very last one because CM Punk was a big independent name when he got signed.

“When I got signed, they were very much like ‘Nope, you can not be Tyler Black. You cannot be anything to do with (that name), none of that, nada. We will own everything about the character you play on TV. We have to come up with a new name.’

When asked how he landed on the name Seth Rollins, he continued:

“I just had names on a list. Dusty Rhodes came up with it for me. ‘I see it now, baby. I see it on the marquee. I see it at WrestleMania right now, it’s Seth Rollins, that’s it, it’s done.'”

Currently out of action due to injury, it is yet to be confirmed when Seth Rollins will make a return to television.

While Rollins may be absent, Austin Theory has been unveiled as the masked man in The Vision and has been using a seemingly familiar-looking finishing move.
