In the past few weeks, several NXT stars have competed in dark matches or on WWE Main Event in what has been described as “tryout matches”.
The latest example of this was before last night’s episode of SmackDown, with two NXT star filled matches taking place in front of fans.
As you can see below, Aliyah took on Indi Hartwell, and Odyssey Jones faced Austin Theory. Aliyah and Jones came out on top in their respective matches.
Prior to Friday’s episode of #SmackDown, four NXT talent competed in a dark matches.
Aliyah defeated Indi Hartwell, while Odyssey Jones defeated Austin Theory.

This was Aliyah’s first singles victory since June 2020, which could mean WWE is planning to give her a bit of a push if she makes a permanent move to the main roster.
