Severity Of CM Punk Injury Was Not Known Until Friday Afternoon AEW

CM Punk announced that he has an injury that will make him currently unable to compete, information that was reportedly only revealed shortly before showtime.

According to a new report from Mike Johnson with PWInsider, the realization that CM Punk would need surgery as a treatment for his current injury was not known until Friday afternoon after which Punk took to Twitter to encourage fans to tune in for a big announcement.

Hinting at trouble, the tweet mentioned Punk was going to make an announcement regarding his career, leaving some fans to fear an impending retirement announcement.

While that was not the case, Punk did reveal that he had “broken bones” and would require surgery in order to successfully heal.

There is no confirmation of how long CM Punk may be out of action at this time but AEW was aware that he was injured after the big six-man match on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

While there was some indication that CM Punk may have had some kind of foot injury on Wednesday as Punk was seen coming out to the ring to confront MJF at the end of his wild promo on Tony Khan sans shoe.

While there was some initial confusion as Chris Jericho on commentary mentioned Punk relinquishing the AEW Championship, that was never the case as elsewhere in the report it was noted that there was always a plan to have an interim champion as AEW models their response based on UFC when a champion is unable to compete.
