Shane McMahon has publicly addressed potentially joining AEW, as well as his meeting with Tony Khan last year.
As originally reported by WrestleTalk and Fightful, AEW President Tony Khan and Shane McMahon had a meeting at an airport in Arlington, TX in July 2024.
With the meeting reportedly being to “discuss possibilities moving forward”, what naturally followed was an abundance of speculation regarding McMahon joining the company in some capacity, something that few fans would have ever thought imaginable.
Despite a chance run-in with The Young Bucks further intensifying the speculation, McMahon never became All Elite in any capacity – with it later being claimed by former WWE name Jonathan Coachman that Shane sought “equity” in AEW, which led to Khan “ghosting” him afterwards.
Months on from those claims, TMZ caught up with McMahon and asked him about the potential of joining AEW – to which he said:
“Had a meeting with AEW and wish them continued success but it’s not WWE, it’s not the company I helped build but you never know what’s going to happen in this business.”
In the same interview Shane also shut down “speculation” that he and his father Vince McMahon may start their own wrestling promotion, saying:
“You never know what’s going to happen out there, of course anything can happen in WWE but those rumors are false.”
McMahon last appeared on WWE television at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023, suffering a torn quadricep during an impromptu match with The Miz.
We will continue to provide updates on McMahon’s future as more information becomes available.
