NXT booker Shawn Michaels has commented on this weekend’s Battleground event taking place at the same time as AEW Double Or Nothing.
Both shows are set to take place on Sunday, May 28 in a move that sees the first time two major companies have gone head-to-head with a premium event since 1989’s WrestleMania V and WCW Clash of the Champions.
During the NXT Battleground media call, Shawn Michaels explained his understanding of the scheduling.
As reported by Wrestling Inc, Michaels would say that it was a “coincidence” and that “to the best of (his) knowledge” they were not consciously going head-to-head.
He said the weekend was chosen as it is Memorial Day weekend and that with Night of Champions being on the Saturday night, they wanted to create a big weekend for WWE fans.
He would have liked to have had a big standalone weekend as the less competition for NXT from “big shows” the better for the product.
With NXT Battleground and AEW Double or Nothing both coming on Sunday, here’s cards for both shows.
The card for NXT Battleground on Sunday, May 28 is as follows:
NXT Championship – Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker
NXT Women’s Championship – Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Stratton
Heritage Cup Championship – Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee
NXT Tag Team Championship – Mark Coffey & Wolfgang (c) vs. Brutus & Julius Creed
North American Championship – Wes Lee (c) vs. Joe Gacy vs. Tyler Bate
Last Man Standing – Dijak vs. Ilja Dragunov
