Shawn Michaels Booking Philosophy For WWE NXT Revealed

A look into the booking philosophy of Shawn Michaels in WWE NXT has been revealed by a current member of the roster.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on his Insight Podcast, Shawn Spears opened up about the creative process with Shawn Michaels in NXT compared to his time in AEW.

“With him and his team here, there’s a lot of thought and effort put into long-term storytelling. Not a lot of rushing of things. Slow character development, or at least, drawn-out character decisions.

“The other thing that I enjoy is that there’s a lot of freedom to let the audience see for themselves. Let the audience make some decisions. It’s okay if they start leaning one way. Wonderful. If they start leaning the other way, wonderful, we’re just gonna kind of see what happens. That’s the beautiful thing about someone who has experience.

“In AEW I had a lot of freedom. Anything that I ever said, whether it be live in front of the audience or backstage, I wrote myself, I didn’t have to clear it with anybody.

“Here, there is still that freedom, but because I can’t see as far down the line as Shawn Michaels can, with all his level of accolades and everything else, I’ll go, ‘Hey, what do you think of this?’, and he’ll go, ‘Not bad, what do you think of this?’, and I go, (Gasps and pumps fist).”

Shawn Spears was in AEW from 2019 to late 2023, and returned to NXT in February 2024.

Page will be defending his title against Trick Williams when NXT makes its debut on The CW on October 1 with a very special guest referee for the Chicago bout.

CM Punk is scheduled to be the referee for the title match.
