Shawn Michaels Expected To Wrestle Again

Shawn Michaels Expected To Wrestle Again

Shawn Michaels‘ return to the ring at Crown Jewel after over eight years away was received with a mixed response.

Although fans defended Michaels’ performance as being the best of the four in the match (which is perhaps a tad unfair on Triple H given his pectoral injury) and noted how he still looked good all these years later, the bout was widely panned by critics.

Nevertheless, viewers enjoyed it. Our post-show poll saw the main event involving HBK voted as website readers’ favourite on the card by a decent margin.

Dream matches discussed

When Shawn was announced as returning there was much talk that Crown Jewel would not be the only match of his return and there were plans in the works for him to wrestle a handful of matches.

Rumours of potential dream bouts with Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles and even Johnny Gargano did the rounds, albeit unfounded, and even talk of another meeting with Undertaker started to emerge.

Shawn himself seemingly shot down the idea immediately following Crown Jewel, telling WWE cameras that it was “a good reminder of why I didn’t do it for eight years and why I’m not going to do it again if I can possibly help it.”

The final clause in that sentence is telling. Michaels clearly left the door open to do another match and according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, chances are he will return to the ring sooner rather than later.

Said Dave Meltzer on the matter:

“He gave the indication after that was it, but unlike his 2010 match with Undertaker, which was an incredible way to go out, this was anything but. So he could want to come back so his last match would be more memorable.”

Mr. WrestleMania

We suspect much the same thing. Although Michaels clearly returned at Crown Jewel for the hefty paycheck, the proud performer in him will not want to go out in a match that had so little fanfare and felt so throwaway.

With Roman Reigns out of WrestleMania and his buddy Triple H on the sidelines and almost certain to miss the show, taking two planned main events away from WWE, it seems even more likely that Michaels will be back.

After all, what better way for Mr. WrestleMania to go out than at the show of all shows?
