The much talked-about Shawn Michaels in-ring return is not just on the cards but seemingly confirmed internally in WWE.
According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, staff are under the impression that Michaels will be returning to the ring for a multi-person match on November 2 in Saudi Arabia. It would be his first match since retiring following defeat to The Undertaker at WrestleMania in 2010.
Michaels has always been adamant about not going back on his retirement vow out of respect for The Undertaker. On Monday’s Raw the Dead Man gave Michaels an ‘out’, declaring that he had not returned out of fear for him.
The angle seemed to point towards a future match between Michaels and Undertaker. With Michaels set to referee the Undertaker-Triple H bout at Super Show-Down, it seems the stage is set for an angle between the two to set up the Saudi collision.
As the Observer notes, the Saudi Prince pushing for specific talent was a fan in the mid-90s. That explains why he previously asked for deceased stars Yokozuna and Ultimate Warrior at Greatest Royal Rumble. Michaels falls into his fandom bracket. With so much money on the table it seems that nobody is off limits.
Does that mean we will also see comebacks for The Rock, Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan and other major stars from the past? It certainly appears less far-fetched a notion than it once was.
