Sheamus & Pat McAfee Address WWE Departures Of R-Truth & Carlito WWE

WWE stars Sheamus and Pat McAfee have discussed the recent departures from the company of R-Truth and Carlito.

Truth and Carlito, as well as Sarah Logan/Valhalla, were informed a few days ago that WWE wouldn’t be renewing their contracts when they expire.

During today’s episode of the Pat McAfee Show, McAfee and Sheamus discussed Truth and Carlito’s exits, and the reactions from fans.

McAfee said:

“Obviously the internet was ablaze this week when we all found out R-Truth’s contract was expiring soon and that he was not gonna be with us going forward from his own announcement. Also Carlito, Carlito came out, and I don’t think I saw that till a couple of days later. I love Carlito – he’s a bad apple. But R-Truth and Carlito have been with WWE for so damn long, been pillars of WWE, have been so entertaining, have been beloved by the WWE Universe for so long, obviously there was a loud reaction to that, in a negative way.

“18 years you’ve been there, there’s been a lot of turnover, and I think that’s something that… we come from the NFL world – we’ll have a friend that we’re on the Colts with, we’re eating lunch with him, this guy’s a professional football player, makes millions of dollars, he’s on the Indianapolis Colts, I’m having lunch with him, he goes to a meeting, I go to a meeting, I never see the guy again.  He got cut.

“In our world, people move on, you don’t have a job forever, you do get cut, you have to learn… in the WWE, it’s kinda similar, but I think people fall in love with the Superstars so much it’s harder to move on. What are your thoughts and perspective on the business as a whole, and do you know when it’s time, do you think guys know when it’s time, do you think it’s always, like, what are your thoughts on it all?”

Sheamus replied:

“Sometimes people don’t know. Look, from the perspective of what we do, entertainment, it’s about entertaining the fans. I’m sure in the NFL, fans will see the player in interviews and they see what he does on the field, but for our perspective, what we do, the fans get to know who that person is, and they get to fall in love with the character and the personality.

“For Truth, he’s one of the most beloved, he’s one of the most entertaining. I had my first dark match with him when I came up in ’07/’08, I came up on the road for dark, and R-Truth had just come back after he was with the company, he went to TNA, he came back again. So we had a dark match together on the road, and from then we bonded.

“That fella walks in the dressing room and it’s just laughs, he’s got a contagious laugh that would just light up the room. But there’s no way of knowing man, you’ve just gotta go out there and do what you can, and sometimes you can’t tell when that time is.”

McAfee then added:

“A lot of guys come back though, that’s the wrestling business. Even more so now with how many opportunities there are elsewhere, and it feels like it’s only growing. Let alone AAA getting bought up by WWE and TKO, that partnership, what they’re gonna do, the amount of money that’s probably gonna be invested in there. TNA seemingly all the way back, obviously AEW still rolling, they broke a record of some sort. There’s so many opportunities, but there’s always a road back to WWE.”

Sheamus continued:

“Yeah it’s not the end. So many guys and girls have left and come back. It’s not the end. Sometimes it’s a bit of a break. There’s no way Truth’s not gonna come back at some stage, I’m sure you’ll see him again, he’s definitely a pillar. Same with Carlito, Carlito was gone for a while, he came back. It’s not the end, if you truly want to find your way back, you’ll find your way back. It’s not the end for anybody.”
