WWE Star Says Celebrated GUNTHER Match ‘Wasn’t Supposed To Happen’ WWE

Former three-time WWE Champion Sheamus has reflected on his WWE Clash At The Castle 2022 match with GUNTHER.

At WWE Clash At The Castle 2022, GUNTHER defeated Sheamus to retain the Intercontinental Championship.

The bout is fondly remembered as one of the best of both men’s WWE careers as “The Celtic Warrior” came up short in winning the one championship that has eluded him, while “The Ring General” continued on a 666-day reign.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Sheamus looked back on this bout with GUNTHER at WWE Clash At The Castle 2022. He said:

“The Gunther match to me is very special. That match wasn’t even supposed to happen. (WWE) was going to Wales, and at the time I wasn’t doing anything.”

“I talked to Hunter about it, we spitballed back and forth, and then he went and made the match. I pitched that match in Wales. Fair play to him, he made it happen,”

GUNTHER and Sheamus has since faced two more times after their initial meeting with the current World Heavyweight Champion picking up the win both times.
