Shocking details have been revealed in the wake of a major announcement of a star extending with AEW for five more years.

As we just reported, AEW has issued a statement tonight announcing that Jon Moxley has signed a new extension with All Elite Wrestling.

While according to some reports (including PWInsider) the deal was signed around the All Out pay-per-view, there was a shocking detail revealed.

According to PWInsider, at one point Jon Moxley’s deal with AEW had actually expired and he was working without a contract, on a “handshake agreement” as a new deal was finalized.

It seems there was very little concern internally that an extension wouldn’t occur as there “was never any concern that he might be looking to go elsewhere.”

The press release notes that Moxley will remain with AEW through 2027 and his responsibilities have been “expanded” and now include “mentoring and coaching talent”.

The release was specific to note that Moxley will work “exclusively” for AEW and its international partners, which includes NJPW.

Jon Moxley will open tonight’s live October 7 episode of AEW Rampage on TNT.
