**Tony Khan has provided clarification on the report, noting that the match would have taken place on AEW television in June and not at Forbidden Door**
The AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view finally took place back in June at the United Center in Chicago, with the show receiving great reviews.
The show was headlined by Jon Moxley facing New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Hiroshi Tanahashi to crown the interim AEW World Champion, after the injury that CM Punk suffered back on the June 1 AEW Dynamite.
Punk’s injury caused a big shakeup to the show, as he was reportedly set to defend the title against Tanahashi in the main event of the show, which was then changed to Moxley.
However, it turns out the Punk vs Tanahashi was not the original plan for Punk on the show, as Tony Khan revealed in the pre-All Out media scrum today.
Khan said that the original planned match for Punk at the show saw him teaming up alongside FTR against Will Ospreay and Aussie Open.
Ospreay instead ended up defending the IWGP United States Championship against Orange Cassidy, while FTR won a winner takes all three-way tag team match against Roppongi Vice and Great O Khan and Jeff Cobb.
