The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was thrown a bit out of wack last night on NXT. As Ashonte Adonis was thoroughly crushed at the hands of Karrion Kross, it was announced that he would not be able to compete in the tournament.
Adonis was scheduled to team with Dezmond Troy but unfortunately, the team had to be pulled. Now, we know who will be filling their spot and it is a truly unexpected team.
In a video posted on Twitter, Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa crossed paths after their Fight Pit match. Ciampa asked why Thatcher didn’t break his leg to which Thatcher responded, “respect”. Ciampa then mentioned that there was an opening in the Dusty Rhodes Classic as Thatcher nodded.
Now, William Regal has announced that the opening will in fact be filled by Thatcher and Ciampa. Here is the tweet:
Well, @NXTCiampa is partially correct. There WAS an opening for the #DustyClassic, but it seems you two have just filled that vacancy… good luck gentlemen. #WWENXT https://t.co/Y68idUyWQL

Thatcher and Ciampa will face Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari in the first round of the tournament.
Ciampa was able to get the win over Thatcher back at NXT TakeOver WarGames 2020 before Thatcher got his win back in the Fight Pit.
