Last night’s SmackDown was as packed and newsworthy as any episode of the show in recent memory, which has been reflected in the ratings.
SmackDown was up an impressive 10% from 2.088 million viewers last week to 2.312 million. SmackDown 1000 aside, it is the best the show has managed since early September.
The reason for the increase is likely down to intrigue over the Becky Lynch injury, with reports of her being pulled from her Survivor Series match against Ronda Rousey surfacing prior to the broadcast.
The high stakes title bout between AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan probably played a small factor but because the match was not advertised in advance and was made at the top of the broadcast, it is unlikely to have had a significant impact.
SmackDown was very close to matching Raw’s rating of 2.44 million viewers, the closest it has been in some time. Chances are that Raw will bounce back next week due to the Survivor Series fallout and SmackDown will return to its usual levels.
