SmackDown Women’s Championship Match Confirmed For Rumble

The main event of this week’s episode of SmackDown Live was a triple threat match to determine the number one contender for Asuka’s SmackDown Women’s Championship. One of Carmella, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch would be heading to Royal Rumble to compete for the championship.

After a hefty back-and-forth match between the trio, ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch came out on top to cement her place in the title match at Royal Rumble. Carmella tapped to the new number one contender.

Lynch lost her title at TLC following interference from Ronda Rousey, allowing Asuka to pick up the title. After setting the wrestling world on fire this past summer, no doubt Lynch will be looking to regain her lost championship.

Curiously, most people had assumed that Lynch would be entering the women’s Royal Rumble match. This is based off the rumor that Lynch and Rousey will be main eventing WrestleMania, possibly with Charlotte Flair in a triple threat too. It seemed likely that Lynch would win the women’s Rumble, and go on to challenge Rousey for her title at WrestleMania, but since ‘The Man’ is now occupied in her own title match at the show, that now seems unlikely at best.

Becky Lynch vs Asuka was previously announced for Royal Rumble, but was then removed. However, it now seems they’re heading back in that original direction.

Either way, Lynch is still very much in the SmackDown Women’s Championship picture, and that makes this writer a very happy man.
