Some Fans Unhappy With WWE Over Aalyah Mysterio & Murphy Angle

Some fans have taken to social media to express their unhappiness at WWE for continuing with a romance angle between former Cruiserweight Champion Murphy, and Rey Mysterio’s daughter Aalyah.

Those that are unhappy with the storyline are of the belief that the age-gap between Aalyah and Murphy is too large, especially in the wake of the Speaking Out movement. For those that don’t know, the pair are 19 and 32-years-old respectively.

Below are just a handful of tweets showing some of the issues that fans on social media have brought up with regards to the storyline:

it makes me uncomfortable. but really, it’s uh…a bit of a LARGE age gap, too large to make them possibly do a love angle, imo

i know she’s 19 and a fully grown adult but the thought of aaliyah being in a romantic storyline with 31 year old buddy murphy makes my skin crawl

They really about to start this dumb and gross romance angle with Murphy and Aaliyah huh?

While some people have issues with the storyline, for the sake of balance, it’s important to note that others see no issue with it. Ryan Satin put out a tweet during Raw asking for people’s views on the storyline, and here are some of the positive ones:

They are both consenting legal adults. Who cares?

I don’t have a problem with it. In real life? It would be strange even though it’s legal. But in a scripted tv storyline? No problem. It’s entertainment. I don’t think they’ve said on camera that Murphy is 32 either, so his character could easily be scripted to be a 20-something

I have absolutely, positively, no problem with this. Why? Because Aaliyah is a legal adult woman and I couldn’t care less about the age gap she has with Murphy.

I actually really like it. Does that make me silly?

What do you think of the romance storyline between Aalyah and Buddy Murphy? Be sure to let us know on Twitter.
