Deville made her return to WWE TV as an authority figure in January, after losing a ‘Loser leaves WWE’ match to Mandy Rose at SummerSlam 2020. She returned to the ring in October as part of her rivalry with Naomi.
As per Fightful Select (subscription required), graphics were originally made including Sonya Deville as a competitor in this year’s women’s Money in the Bank match.
Ahead of the bout, it had been speculated that Deville was going to announce herself as the final competitor in the bout. It isn’t known why she ultimately wasn’t part of the final line-up.
At Money in the Bank in July, Nikki ASH defeated Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Liv Morgan, Naomi, Natalya, Tamina, and Zelina Vega in the women’s ladder match to claim the briefcase.
There were a number of pitches from the WWE creative team for Deville’s return. The on-screen authority figure recently confirmed that she almost was competed in this year’s Royal Rumble match in January.
The report also noted that both WWE producers and staff have praised Deville’s recent work with Naomi, with the feud being well received backstage.
