Last night’s AEW Dynamite (May 10) saw Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett’s AEW World Tag Team Championship challenge to FTR accepted for May 28’s Double or Nothing PPV.
While this was expected, a curious wrinkle was added on top of the Las Vegas proceedings when Mark Briscoe also confirmed that he would be stepping between the two teams as the special guest referee for the bout.
Briscoe has reluctantly been dragged into the feud between his real life friends FTR and Jay Lethal, with Lethal using said friendship into tricking Briscoe into joining forces with Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh.
This trickery has drawn the ire of FTR as a result and while Briscoe has attempted to be a peacekeeper between all parties last night’s Dynamite saw tensions spill over, albeit not in a way anyone expected.
In an attempt to celebrate the upcoming match Briscoe would pass out cups of tequila to all involved and attempt to lead a toast to the upcoming match, but this quickly backfired when Sonjay Dutt spat his share back out into the face of Dax Harwood, leading an attack on him and Cash from Jarrett, Lethal and Singh.
However, amidst the confusion Jarrett ‘inadvertently’ threw Briscoe into a blinded Dax’s path, and unknowing as to who it was, Dax would naturally hit a piledriver onto the unsuspected Briscoe, immediately leading to concern from Cash as a result.
While FTR have only just captured their second AEW Tag Championship, could this inadvertent attack play into Jarrett, Lethal and company’s master plan at Double or Nothing?
