After it was announced that Tommaso Ciampa would have to undergo major neck surgery, meaning he would not only miss NXT Takeover: New York, but also be forced to vacate his NXT Championship, fans have been anxious to see how NXT will resolve the situation. Well, it appears at the ongoing NXT TV Tapings that all has been revealed.
@MrJacobCohen reported that Triple H came out to the Full Sail crowd and stated that he thought he would be there announcing Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano at NXT Takeover: New York, but that couldn’t happen with Ciampa out injured.

”The Game” would go on to add that this means an opportunity had arisen for other NXT superstars. He announced that a fatal-five-way match between Matt Riddle, Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream vs. Aleister Black vs. Ricochet will take place tonight, with the winner going on to face Johnny Gargano for the vacant NXT Championship two nights before WrestleMania 35.

It appears that Adam Cole prevailed in the match, pinning Ricochet to book his place in the mouth-watering NXT Championship match against Johnny Gargano at NXT Takeover: New York.
It was reported last week that either Matt Riddle or Adam Cole were being discussed as potential replacements for Ciampa, and those rumours have been validated in the latest development.
Scoop #9: Adam Cole wins, he is going to Takeover
