The world of wrestling in 2023 kicked off in a crazy way earlier today, when Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks) made her NJPW debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Mercedes became a free agent on January 1, with her and WWE agreeing to end her contract with the company last Summer.
Last month, a tag team match was announced for the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite in Los Angeles, pitting Britt Baker and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter against Saraya and a partner of her choosing.
There have been very little hints or references to the identity of Saraya’s partner on TV since then, and we now know why.
Per Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN, Mercedes will in fact be the partner of choice for Saraya next week, but AEW have not made major hints at the fact due to her still being under WWE contract until January 1.
Mercedes has signed a lucrative contract with Bushiroad, but promised to start a ‘world tour’, which would see her walk through the Forbidden Door onto Dynamite next week.
The show will also feature the finals of the best of seven series between the Elite and Death Triangle.
Sources: Mercedes Varnado will be Saraya’s partner next week in #AEWDynamite in LA against Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter. Couldn’t announce or make a major hint due to her being still under contract to WWE until the beginning of 2023.
