A spoiler may have emerged on the winner of tonight’s WWE Raw match to decide the next challenger for Gunther’s WWE Intercontinental Title.
As announced on SmackDown, tonight’s May 15 episode of WWE Raw will play host to a battle royal to determine Gunther’s next opponent.
We don’t know how many people will be in it, nor do we know any specific names who’ll be in it, but we do have a little bit of a clue.
As we’ve covered on the site already, Johnny Gargano has been cleared to return from injury and worked a match at this past Saturday’s house show in Augusta, Georgia.
That match just so happened to be an Intercontinental Championship match against Gunther.
There are no guarantees and this is just speculation, but it’s possible that WWE ran that match at a house show to give Gunther and Gargano a chance to work together before doing so on TV, which could mean Gargano winning the battle royal tonight.
Again, that’s nothing more than an educated guess really at this point, but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time that has happened.
Tonight was advertised as being Gunther’s Raw “debut”, which isn’t true, but it will be the first time he’s on the show after being officially drafted to the Raw roster in the WWE Draft.
He’s been off TV for a couple of weeks as he was in Europe getting married to, then going on his honeymoon with, former NXT UK wrestler Jinny.
