Last year’s Stadium Stampede match was taped prior to Double or Nothing. However, this year’s match will reportedly be significantly different.
Fightful Select (subscription required) is currently reporting that the match will have a “significant live element to it”. They note that they were not told what exactly that meant but also said it will be a “unique live experience”.
Last year’s Double or Nothing event took place in front of zero fans due to the pandemic. The only spectators were the small groups of wrestlers at ringside and thus AEW was able to air the pre-taped Stadium Stampede match without compromising a live experience.
This year’s event will have a full audience and so doing a match entirely pre-taped would have led to a very different reaction.
The Stadium Stampede match will feature The Pinnacle and The Inner Circle. Also, it has been noted previously that this year’s match will not rely on as much comedy as last year’s. Understandable as The Elite was a much more comedic act than either stable involved this year.
Double or Nothing is set to air on May 30, 2021. You can order the show on FITE.
