Stephanie McMahon has revealed her honest thoughts on the Netflix behind-the-scenes series WWE Unreal, now in its second season.
Completing its second season earlier this year, the Netflix show would close with the announcement that a new run is coming in summer 2026, with John Cena’s retirement year as a focus.
While Seth Rollins has previously stated that he has “a really difficult relationship with the show“, former WWE chairwoman Stephanie McMahon has revealed an arguably more pragmatic approach.
Speaking on What’s Your Story?, McMahon opened up about the show giving away the secrets of the business, revealing that ‘magic is the magic’, saying:
“I like Unreal. I don’t think it gives away the magic, I really don’t, because the magic is the magic.
“The magic is a feeling, and the magic is the feeling you create and that you share, that you share with the audience, that you share with everyone in the ring with you.
“It’s like this kinetic energy, and you can’t give that away, because it’s not anything to give away, it’s something you experience. I tend to agree, I think times are evolving, it’s an exciting time, a really exciting time to be a part of the world.”

Becky Lynch previously shared similar thoughts, looking at the evolution of the wrestling business and how it is now entertainment, noting she would have “loved to see” WWE Unreal as a fan.
The Peak Behind The Curtain That Pulled It Right Back
Announced at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025, WWE Unreal offered a look inside the writer’s room and what goes on outside of the ring and away from the television product.
From that very first announcement, to the airing of season one that July, right through to season two this past January, opinion has been divided on the role that WWE Unreal plays as a product of modern television and wrestling.
Triple H would address claims that online complaints from some quarters that the show is ‘lifting the curtain‘, noting that there are a plethora of podcasts out there where the behind-the-scenes happenings are discussed at length.
The WWE executive would also use magic as a metaphor, stating that WWE Unreal doesn’t show how the trick itself is done, focusing on the “heart, soul and passion that everybody puts into that product to make it great for fans.”
It is certainly a curious space that WWE Unreal fills, providing an insight into what goes on behind-the-scenes for newsworthy moments such as R-Truth’s brief departure, through their own editorial filter.
This isn’t the first time that WWE has attempted to give fans a look behind the proverbial curtain, with WWE Confidential offering a behind-the-scenes look, albeit heavily curated, back in 2002, and many documentaries subsequently offering a less rose-tinted view of history.
Unlike many of its predecessors, WWE Unreal focuses on the recent history, months after it took place, as opposed to years or even decades, keeping fans relatively up-to-date and in-the-know when it comes to what went on backstage.
