Stone Cold Steve Austin Comments On CM Punk Relationship, Potential WWE Match

Stone Cold Steve Austin has commented on his relationship with WWE Raw star CM Punk, as well as a potential a match between the two in the future.

Both throughout his first run in WWE and since CM Punk returned to the company in November 2023, a dream match between himself and Stone Cold Steve Austin has been something many fans have clamoured for.

During an interview with Adrian Hernandez, Austin was asked about his relationship with Punk, to which he referred to Punk as his friend despite the pair not speaking regularly.

Austin said:

“Oh, me and Punk are friends from way back, there was a picture back from probably in my heyday. And he’s a lot younger than I am, and we got a picture there together, and he’s just a young kid.

“And so I think he was a Stone Cold fan back in the day, and I’m a CM Punk fan. I’m a fan of his work and his promos Jesus Christ he can light somebody up.

“So we don’t talk a whole lot. We’ll send each other a text every now and then but we’re probably really, really good friends that don’t talk a whole lot and have a lot of mutual respect for each other.”

Austin would then be asked about Punk potentially being his final WWE opponent, answering:

“Oh man, there is so many potential great matches I’d have to draw a blank stare and think for a couple of minutes. But would he be on the list? Of course.”

On the one year anniversary of his WWE return in November, Punk shared a text message that he had sent to Austin ahead of his return to WWE at Survivor Series as well as Austin’s shocked reply.

While a potential match with Austin remains up in the air, Punk is officially set to face Seth Rollins in a steel cage match on next Monday’s WWE Raw (March 10).
