Stop the Violence, Sami!

Stop the Violence, Sami!

Wrestlezone has reported that a match for All American Wrestling was thrown out yesterday when, according to AAW, the contest was becoming too violent, and had too much outside interference.

A wrestling promotion that bills itself as: ‘No countouts. No disqualifications. Just professional wrestling for the wrestling fan’ saw fit to rule a certain match a no-contest, however, when that match included the likes of Sami Callihan, maybe you can understand.

Calihan took on Brody King yesterday at AAW Wrestling Rulz, a show that was by all accounts a barn-burner.

Sami Callihan, you may remember, made pro wrestling headlines two months ago when he busted Eddie Edwards’ face wide open in a baseball bat attack gone wrong at Impact Wrestling. It was Callihan’s response to the incident, however, that has made the top independent wrestling draw a figure of controversy.

As for violent and bloody matches, we have seen them before. The Guerrero-JBL blood bath at Judgement Day 2004 comes to mind, as does much of ECW’s run in the 90’s. To judge it all, pro wrestling has had The Muta Scale.

Whether unknown factors, or storytelling goals contributed to the stoppage, it only fits with everything we know about Sami Callihan. He is a killer in the ring who sells a ton of merchandise, and we don’t see that changing.
