A new report has revealed a surprising contract update on Mercedes Mone.
At STARDOM All Star Grand Queendom, Mayu Iwatani defeated Mercedes Mone to win the IWGP Women’s Championship.
Leading up to the event, multiple reports indicated that this was the final date Mone was contracted to appear with NJPW/STARDOM.
However, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported that the former WWE star had extended her deal with Bushiroad. Following her match at the STARDOM show, Mercedes announced that she would appear at the NJPW Resurgence event on May 21.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that members of her team indicate that Mercedes Mone has no more dates left with STARDOM as of this moment.
The two sides are open to doing more business with one another in the future, and STARDOM was said to have been happy with the deal and the business from it.
The report notes that both sides have been open to doing business again, but “it would likely require a bigger renegotiation after the business she drew there.”
The reported extension on the deal was done for Mone to appear at NJPW Resurgence in Long Beach, California on May 21.
Sources in NJPW weren’t sure of how long the deal ran, but they did indicate there weren’t matches scheduled in Japan for “at least a while.”
As previously reported, Mercedes Mone hinted at future plans in STARDOM with some AEW regulars on social media.
We will have further updates and news regarding Mercedes Mone’s contract status when they become available.
