History was made tonight as Swerve Strickland defeated Samoa Joe to become the AEW World Champion at Dynasty.
There was a hard fought battle in the main event of tonight’s Dynasty pay-per-view as Samoa Joe looked to defend his AEW World Title against Swerve.
In the end it would take Swerve Strickland hitting two Swerve Stomps in order to beat Samoa Joe and win the match via pinfall.
Strickland has become the first African-American World Champion in the history of All Elite Wrestling, something that was noted several times on commentary.
Also of note for history, for his first time ever refereeing an AEW World Championship match, Stephon Smith presented Swerve the title.
Elsewhere on tonight’s AEW Dynasty, the Young Bucks won the Tag Team titles in a ladder match against FTR after an interference from the returning Jack Perry.
