Swerve Strickland Says Xavier Woods’ Accomplishments Are Overlooked WWE

AEW’s Swerve Strickland has praised a former colleague from his WWE days, describing him as “exceeding champions.”

During a recent episode of Say Less, Swerve Strickland looked back on his time with WWE and singled out the New Day’s Xavier Woods as being particularly impressive.

He said:

“Xavier Woods would be another one. I feel like he exceeds championships for what he’s doing. It’s brilliant, I think he is truly brilliant.”

Strickland said he thought that Xavier Woods’ talent and accomplishments are overlooked due to the focus on the big singles titles within pro wrestling.

He explained:

“But I think once again we discredit accomplishments because he’s never won the big one. The stuff he’s still doing for his career, period; blowing his Achilles tendon then coming back still winning King of the Ring and doing all the stuff he’s doing. That’s an accomplishment. I really wish we would thread the needle with this fickleness when it comes to that.”

Swerve Strickland (FKA Isaiah “Swerve” Scott) signed with WWE in 2019 and remained there until his release in November 2021. He made his in-ring debut for AEW in March 2022 where he quickly formed a partnership with Keith Lee, naming themselves Swerve In Our Glory.

The pair won the AEW tag-team titles on July 13, which they retained until their match against a rematch The Acclaimed at the Grand Slam edition of Dynamite on September 21.

Strickland was previously a part of the Hit Row stable on WWE NXT with Top Dolla, Ashante Thee Adonis and B-Fab, who recently returned to WWE on the August 12 edition of SmackDown.

This led to speculation that Strickland may have been made an offer to return, which you can read more about right here.

Xavier Woods, along with Big E and Kofi Kingston, formed The New Day in 2014. Despite never winning a big singles title, he is an 11-time Tag Team Champion, having held the SmackDown Tag Team title seven times, and the Raw Tag Team title four times. In October 2021, Xavier Woods also won the coveted King of the Ring tournament.
