WWE Acquires Notable Video Tape Library WWE

On a recent episode of WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures on A&E, it was revealed that WWE has acquired a notable tape library.

During the May 14 episode, ‘Macho Man” Randy Savage’, it was confirmed that WWE now owns over 20 boxes of master tapes from the promotion International Championship Wrestling.

WWE Archivist Ben Brown noted that prior to WWE acquiring the footage, the tapes had been in a storage locker room for decades, after being used as collateral after ICW founder Angelo Poffo borrowed momey from an oil company to help pay for the promotion.

Lanny Poffo appeared in the episode to authenticate the footage, which he hadn’t seen before. It wasn’t made clear when WWE officially acquired the tapes.

This promotion was owned by the Poffo family in Kentucky, and was a rival to Jerry Jarrett’s Memphis Wrestling territory.

International Championship Wrestling is the latest promotion which WWE has acquired tape libraries from, following the lieks of WCW, ECW and Jim Crockett Promotions.

WWE is currently making history with an entirely new World Heavyweight Championship, with the inaugural titleholder to be determined at Night of Champions.
