The real reason that Taz’s Hardcore Hall of Fame ceremony wasn’t shown on last night’s AEW Dynamite has been revealed.

On August 27, it was revealed that Taz would be inducted into the 2300 Arena Hardcore Hall of Fame, with the ceremony initially announced for that week’s Collision episode.

The induction ceremony was subsequently moved to the September 3 Dynamite taping, with Tony Khan going on to reveal that Taz had “asked for more time to get his family and everybody lined up.”

With the recent episode of AEW Dynamite having now aired, it has been revealed the ceremony wasn’t part of the live broadcast per Taz’s own request.

In a video shared on Twitter, Khan spoke with the Hardcore Hall of Famer with Taz stating that he preferred to not have his ceremony eat up TV time, allowing the focus to be on the wrestlers.

Khan would state he wanted to put the ceremony on television, but was honoring Taz’s request.

Footage was shared of the banner reveal for Taz’s induction into the Hardcore Hall of Fame, as can be seen here.

Taz has also addressed the decision to not air the induction during AEW Dynamite, tweeting that they thought it would be on TV, responding with a tweet that stated:

“Nah…as per my request, no need to have it on TV. We have lots of current in-ring wrestlers that should get the tv time…this isn’t about me, it’s 2025…I’ve been retired for years. I do not want or need anyone’s TV time. Not how I’m wired.”

Taz hasn’t competed since ECW One Night Stand in 2006, defeating Jerry Lawler in just over thirty seconds.

Prior to that, his last match took place in 2002, teaming with Rikishi in a losing effort against Billy & Chuck on a WWE house show.

He would go on to serve on the commentary team in WWE before leaving the company in 2009, heading to TNA Wrestling for commentary.

A hiatus in 2015 would then see him largely absent from television until his AEW arrival in 2019, signing his first deal with the company in January the following year.
