In a backstage interview after the AEW Dynamite victory, not only did new FTW Champion HOOK appear but we also get to hear from his proud papa, Taz.
As Taz was on commentary for the match, he commented on how surreal the moment was seeing HOOK win the FTW Championship, a title he created decades ago, a thought he reiterated in his backstage interview.
While Taz praised Ricky Starks for elevating the championship within All Elite Wrestling, he was clearly delighted that the title was back in the family.
Taz detailed the history of the title, noting that its origin comes from not being able to get a title opportunity, so he created the FTW Championship as “a title that tough guys fight for and hold.”
Noting that HOOK is a tough guy, he also added:
“I know that you’re not going to back down to anybody because I know how you are. I know how you think and he exemplifies FTW. He grew up seeing this in our house on the mantel, that’s the truth. His upbringing was seeing this belt, and other belts, but this belt.”
Taz reacted to AEW’s Twitter sharing the backstage comments by saying that while he isn’t good with “the emotional stuff” he is #proud.
HOOK won the FTW Championship from Ricky Starks after Starks had already successfully defended the title against Danhausen but then issued an open challenge after the match as he claimed to still have some fight left in him.
Unfortunately for Starks the night went from bad to worse as after his loss, he saw his tag-team partner Powerhouse Hobbs commit a stunning betrayal.
I’m not really sure what to type… not good with the emotional stuff haha ??♂️ #Proud https://t.co/TI40slVT2C
