Last week’s SmackDown Live saw a surprising attack on Daniel Bryan by the Bludgeon Brothers which cost Bryan the chance to win the number one contenders Gauntlet match. The beatdown took place after Bryan interrupted the Tag Team Champions celebration upon retaining their titles against Gallows and Anderson.
It was clear that this wasn’t a random attack as the show opened with a back and forth between Bryan and The Bludgeon Brothers on Miz TV. This lead to Bryan challenging either Harper or Rowan to a one-on-one match later that night, and it was Harper that stepped forward.
After an entertaining bout, the ‘Leader of the Yes Movement’ had Harper ready to tap to the Yes Lock only for Rowan to break up the submission and thus ending the match. With Bryan seemingly helpless, it was Kane who made a shocking return to come to the aid of his former Team Hell No partner.
Bryan and Kane cleared the Bludgeon Brothers from the ring and embraced to the applause of the crowd in attendance. As if the reunion of Team Hell No wasn’t awesome enough, SmackDown Live General Manager, Paige, revealed that Kane and Bryan would be competing for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against the Bludgeons at Extreme Rules.
This sets up a great feud in SmackDown’s stacked tag team division and takes Bryan away from the main event scene for a while as he makes his long journey back to the top. There’s a lot of fun to be had with Team Hell No and their pursuit of championship gold is surely going to be one of the biggest stories of the summer on the ‘Blue Brand.’
