The Broserweights faced The Grizzled Young Veterans on the January 29, 2020 edition of NXT to determine who would win the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament. After a match that really picked during the last 10 minutes, Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle picked up the victory.
The match ended with several near falls before Dunne and Riddle finally sealed the deal. They were then presented with the Dusty trophy.

However, the biggest prize is the chance to face the tag team champions at NXT TakeOver: Portland. Riddle and Dunne will try to win tag team gold against Undisputed Era.
It will be interesting to see what happens in Portland. Adam Cole is set to face Tommaso Ciampa. Roderick Strong has lost his NXT North American Title to Keith Lee.
Now, it looks like the Tag Titles could be in jeopardy. I don’t usually find these forced tag team combinations all that appealing.
However, there seems to be something really working between the odd couple of Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne. The opposites attract scenario is fully in play.
This is not a drill.

The way the serious Dunne plays off the laidback Riddle is really entertaining. Will NXT ride the fortunate pairing of the two until it’s time for them to break up and face each other?
Or will the short term combo flame out in Portland? Only time will tell.
