It was announced on Friday Night Smackdown that The New Day would be getting a title match next week on Smackdown. In case you have forgotten, the current Smackdown Tag Team Champions are The Revival.
In order to book The New Day strong as they head into the title match next week, it would make sense to give them a win this week. However, that’s not what happened on tonight’s show.
The New Day faced Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Dolph Ziggler pinned Kofi Kingston allowing the former Raw tag team champions to pick up the win.

After the match, The Revival came down and attacked. Heavy Machinery came out to make the save. The commentary team put over the fact that we are going to determine the best tag team in the world on Thursday at Crown Jewel.
All 4 teams involved in the post-match brawl will compete in the tag-team turmoil match in Saudi Arabia on Halloween. Lucha House Party will also represent Smackdown in the turmoil match. They were watching all this unfold backstage.

Of course, The New Day is now currently represented by Kofi Kingston and Big E. Xavier Woods is out with an injury and will miss a significant amount of time.
Given the way Kofi Kingston was tossed aside for Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez, it might be a consolation prize for Kofi to grab the tag team titles next week. If they win, this would be the 7th tag team title reign for The New Day. However, The Revival has not had a ton of defenses and the titles need a long reign to re-establish them as an important set of titles.
