Barring a few exceptions (such as the rushed Women’s gauntlet match on Raw and Jinder Mahal’s tiresome whining) the Money in the Bank qualifying matches have been enjoyable to watch. They have produced some quality in-ring performances by The Miz, Daniel Bryan, and Samoa Joe and also left a looming mystery of who the New Day will select as their Money in the Bank ladder match participant.
*waits for the chorus of “Who, Who? Who?” to finish up*
For consecutive weeks, fans have been teased with false reveals of the decision. First, The Miz was going to get an exclusive on Miz TV.
Then, when that failed, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton tried to get the answer out of Xavier Woods while he were on commentary during the Big E/Miz match that followed the segment.
We never found out, but we assumed we’d learn the answer at some point during an episode of SmackDown Live, right? Well, if you tuned in this past Tuesday to SmackDown Live, it appears we will not find out the New Day’s pick until the pay-per-view itself, on Sunday, June 17. Cageside Seats are calling it a rumor, but judging by the tone of Tuesday’s New Day segment it seems like a good one.
The smart money, of course, has been on the team’s powerhouse Big E, as he has been in line for a rumored singles push for a while now. It does seem the most obvious choice, but at the same time is the choice that makes the most sense, given E’s combination of popularity and size.
Kudos to WWE for keeping this going from week to week. A mystery laying at the end of consistent storytelling is always welcome to this fan.
