Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has discussed the ‘new era’ of DC movies, ahead of the release of his Black Adam film.
Ahead of the October 21 release of Black Adam, The Rock has been teasing that his titular character will upset the power balance of the DC Extended Universe.
There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding the DCEU this year, with several projects shelved and others scrapped completely following the change in leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery.
Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Rock stated that this is a new era for DC films. Explaining how this next phase of the DCEU will be different, Johnson said:
“I have been saying this is a new era in the DC Universe that I love, that we love. It’s a new era. Yes, we’re going to introduce new characters. But also, the new era means listen to the fans. You’ve got to listen to the fans. And for a very long time, for years, fans have been screaming, they’ve been upset, like ‘Hey!’
“We established Black Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on the planet. The most powerful and unstoppable force in the entire universe has been on the sidelines for too long.”
“We were going to deliver it to the fans. And then at the end, welcome home.”
Following The Rock’s recent teases, many have speculated that we’ll see a Superman cameo in the upcoming film. At New York Comic Con, The Rock stated that it is ‘absolutely’ the plan to eventually have Black Adam fight Clark Kent on the big screen.
While The Rock refuses to confirm whether or not he’s preparing for a WWE return, previous reports have indicated that The Great One is pencilled in to battle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023.
