“The Rock cannot do what I do” – Elias calls out the ‘Great One’

“The Rock cannot do what I do” – Elias calls out the ‘Great One’

Just a few nights after antagonizing the people of Seattle in a memorable Raw segment, Elias upped the ante by calling out the ‘People’s Champion.’

In an interview with the ‘Drifter’ (which you can see in its entirety below), Alex McCarthy of Give Me Sport pointed out similarities between Elias and The Rock circa 2003.

Long-time WWE fans will recall that upon his return from filming The Scorpion King in 2002, The Rock donned the ‘Hollywood’ mantle, often appearing with a guitar to serenade the fans during one of his celebrated ‘Rock Shows.’

When asked whether he had drawn any inspiration from the ‘Great One,’ Elias was unequivocal in his response:

“Listen, no inspiration whatsoever. Okay, I’ve stated this before. The Rock, he did do this. He’d play guitar and things like that. He would do cover songs on Monday Night Raw. But guess what? I’m doing original music every single week man. I got an album out with all original songs written, performed by me. I even did a song on piano, if you listen to that.”

Elias didn’t stop after the first verse, however, and immediately launched into the chorus – emphasizing that not only had he not copied The Rock’s mannerisms but that he has, in fact, far eclipsed him:

“The thing is, The Rock cannot do what I do. So, when I hear these comparisons, I get worked up about it. You know what I mean? Look, he’s doing great things. He’s out in Hollywood, he’s killing it out there. He obviously killed it when he was here but times have changed. It’s different now. Elias is the biggest and best thing going in WWE.”

Barely stopping to draw breath, the ‘Drifter’ contemplated the possibility of going toe-to-toe with the former multi-time WWE champion:

“Will we share a ring? He knows where to find me. I’ve told him, you know what I mean? I’ve called him out a few times. He knows where to find me on my show, Monday Night Raw. If you want to Walk with Elias, come on out.”

This is not the first time that Elias has launched a verbal volley in the Rock’s direction. In February, he expressed very similar sentiments regarding his superlative talents, before issuing a direct challenge to the ‘People’s Champ’ on Twitter in July.

While a match-up seems unlikely at this point, rumors have been circulating that The Rock may be making an appearance as soon as SmackDown 1000 later this month, or possibly Royal Rumble early next year.

Should the pair’s paths ever cross, perhaps the Rock does decide to step inside the ring and Walk with Elias.
