The trailer for the upcoming biopic The Smashing Machine, starring WWE’s The Rock, has dropped ahead of its October release date.
The Smashing Machine is set for an October 3 release date and see Dwayne Johnson star as the legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr.
Released by A24, fans got their first look at Johnson in the lead role back in May 2024 and can now see more of the star in the new trailer.
As can be seen in the video below this news story – or at this link – the trailer features a near-unrecognisable Dwayne Johnson following an incredible makeup transformation, starring alongside Emily Blunt in the Benny Safdie-written and directed movie.
The biopic will chart Kerr’s struggles with addiction along with his MMA career and features Blunt as his wife, Dawn Staples.
As Deadline previously reported, the movie follows Kerr “from the no-holds-barred era of the UFC at the peak of his career as he questions himself and struggles with life and his relationships.”
The trailer takes us from a hospital waiting room as we follow Kerr through his career, his difficulties, health issues and the impact it has on those around him, including his wife, Dawn (played by Blunt).
Blunt and Johnson are set to reunite for a third time on screen in a Martin Scorsese-directed movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Their first big screen outing was the 2021 Disney fantasy adventure movie, The Jungle Cruise.
