Another Reason The Rock Vs. Roman Reigns Might Not Happen At WrestleMania 39

Another Reason The Rock Vs. Roman Reigns Might Not Happen At WrestleMania 39 WWE

Roman Reigns is taking on Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs. Champion match at WrestleMania 38, and it was widely expected he would win this match, and then take on The Rock at WrestleMania 39.

However, a new report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio suggests Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may be too busy to compete in a match next year.

It was announced yesterday that Johnson’s XFL had struck a deal with the NFL, and Meltzer thinks this could impact The Rock’s ability to be at WrestleMania 39. He said:

“Dwayne being all over next year promoting this thing (the XFL), which could be interesting because next year’s the WrestleMania that he was supposed to work with Roman Reigns, and that would be in April, and that’s probably gonna be the middle of the season.

“If he’s got any kind of an action movie deal within a couple of months (of WrestleMania), let alone, if he’s got one that takes place during that period there’s no way he would do it (the match). If it’s even like a month or two after, they wouldn’t let him because the insurance and things like that would be too high. That’s why he never did another one.

“If he wants to do a clean slate (with movies) and not do anything… still he’s gonna be promoting this stuff (XFL), he can still train, but I don’t think he can promote this stuff and do (WrestleMania).

“It’s not just movies, he’s got Ballers, Young Rock, TV shows that he does. So I know that’s kind of the plan for next year (Rock vs Reigns), but yeah the guy’s got a lot on his plate that’s gonna be higher priority.”

So perhaps they’ll need to think of a plan B for Roman if The Rock is too busy being a sports franchise-owning action hero.

Here is the press release from the XFL regarding the new collaboration with the NFL.

“Health and safety will be a principal area of focus in both learning and innovation, with the XFL working with the NFL on forward thinking physical and mental fitness programs for players, the study of playing surfaces and equipment and the sharing of game trends and data.

“We are extremely pleased to collaborate with the NFL in these important areas,” said Dany Garcia, Co-Owner and Chairwoman of the XFL. “We are bringing forward an XFL that is progressive and forward-thinking when it comes to innovation, leveraging the newest technology to enhance gameday experience.  We have an open field for innovative rules to enhance in-game access.  Sharing insights and practices between the XFL and NFL will do a tremendous amount of good for the game of football and support the player ecosystem overall.”

Additional avenues for collaboration may include international football development and scouting,  as well as officiating, including the testing of different game rules for player protection and enhanced overall play, and of different technologies to enhance officiating.

I guess they can always just have Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns…again?

Both The Rock and Roman Reigns are on the WWE 2K22 roster. Check out the full roster here.
