WWE’s Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is teaming up with A24 once again for an upcoming psychological thriller project.
A24 is the studio behind the biopic ‘The Smashing Machine‘ which sees The Rock star as MMA fighter Mark Kerr.
With The Smashing Machine heading to theaters on October 3, 2025, details for The Rock’s next A24 project have been revealed.
According to Deadline, The Rock will co-star in Breakthrough, an A24 produced and financed psychological thriller.
The project currently doesn’t have a director, but will be written by Zeke Goodman, with Deadline describing the project as:
Set in turn-of-the-millennium Southern California, the story follows an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru, whose intoxicating charm masks his morally questionable methods of manipulation and his own concealed darkness.
The WWE star is set to play the guru in what is described as a “supporting role”, with casting for the lead and other roles currently underway.
The upcoming project will be co-produced by The Rock and Dany Garcia’s production company Seven Bucks Productions and Stacey Sher’s Shiny Penny Productions.
Jacob Epstein and Justin Wolf will function as executive producers through Lighthouse Management and Media.
Zeke Goodman will be familiar to fans of the Amazon reboots of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Cruel Intentions.
The Rock was among the WWE names recently nominated for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
