The Rock and WWE had a “bit of a falling out” ahead of WrestleMania 40, according to a recently released former NXT star Wolfgang.
In the main event of WrestleMania 40 Night One, The Rock teamed with Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins – a match that was Rock’s first since his brief match with Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 in 2016.
In preparation for the bout, Rock trained with former NXT stars Wolfgang, Joe & Mark Coffey, with the trio posting a picture with WWE’s Final Boss afterwards.
While nothing was reported about it at the time, Wolfgang recalled Rock and WWE having a “bit of a falling out” regarding The Rock’s travel to the training camp in Los Angeles.
Speaking to Cultaholic’s Tom Campbell, Wolfgang recalled:
“There’s a whole backstory that we arrived on Monday night. Tuesday was supposed to be day one and then Wednesday was day two and Thursday if we needed it.
“We got there on the Monday, on the Tuesday I don’t know what happened and I don’t want to start any rumours here, but there was a bit of a falling out about, ‘You come pick me up in your private plane. No, no no, you come pick me up. I’ll be here, you come get me.’
“So Tuesday was scrapped. They just couldn’t get off the runway, they said there was a problem with the plane. And then myself, Mark and Joe just got a free day in Los Angeles where we just got to go be tourists. Hit the gym, went down the pier. It was a fantastic day.”
“To be honest, I think it was just someone big leaguing the other one. I think it was a case of, ‘No, I don’t drive to you. You collect me.’ That’s the way I like to think it was. But regardless, the boys and I got a free day in LA.”
The Rock ultimately got the win in his big WWE return match, pinning Cody Rhodes one night before Rhodes would dethrone Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Rock’s last WWE appearance came at the Elimination Chamber event in March, playing a crucial role in John Cena’s seismic heel turn ahead of WrestleMania 41.
Gallus were released from their WWE contracts in May, last competing for the company at an NXT live event on April 26.
