The IWGP Tag Team Championships have changed hands at the New Beginning in USA event in Atlanta. Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa managed to win the titles back from Juice Robinson and David Finlay, stopping FinJuice’s attempt at their first title defense.
The match was a rematch of their battle at Wrestle Kingdom 14. At the Tokyo Dome, FinJuice was able to win the titles for the first time, having earned the shot by winning the World Tag League. This marks the sixth reign for the Guerrillas of Destiny.
It appeared that Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kota Ibushi would be next in line to challenge for the titles. Now, they may have to wait a little longer with the tag division becoming more unclear. The former champs teamed with Tanahashi and Ibushi at New Year Dash.
This marks the second New Japan title change of the day. At The New Beginning in Sapporo Night One, Shingo Takagi defeated Hirooki Goto to win the NEVER Openweight Championship. This is Takagi’s first singles championship in New Japan.
