There was a title change at tonight’s WWE SmackDown before the show itself went on the air on USA Network.
Before SmackDown tonight, the latest match for WWE Speed was taped, with a new champion being crowned.
After defeating Akira Tozawa, Dragon Lee recently became #1 contender for the WWE Speed Championship.
In a match taped before tonight’s SmackDown, Dragon Lee defeated Andrade for the title to become the third ever WWE Speed Champion.
The inaugural champion was Ricochet, who won the title in April in the first ever tournament final against Johnny Gargano.
Ricochet then dropped the title to Andrade in June.
It remains to be seen when the Andrade vs Dragon Lee match will actually air on Twitter, but when it does, Dragon Lee is the winner.
As well as now being WWE Speed Champion, Dragon Lee is also a former NXT North American Champion.
Speed features matches with a three-minute time limit that air weekly exclusively on Twitter/X.
Candice LeRae is the first ever and current WWE Speed Women’s Champion, having won the title last month.
