In a match that wasn’t even originally supposed to take place tonight (December 13), Mandy Rose has dropped the NXT Women’s Championship.
At NXT Deadline on December 10, Roxanne Perez won the first ever women’s Iron Survivor Challenge match, which earned her the right to challenge Rose for the title at NXT New Year’s Evil on January 10.
However, in the opening segment of tonight’s show, Perez was attacked by Rose and it was announced the match would take place tonight instead.
Perez ended up winning and Rose’s 413-day reign came to an end, at a point when she was just four days away from hitting the second-longest reign of all time behind Asuka, so she would have reached that milestone if this had taken place on January 10 as initially planned.
Perez kicked out of Rose’s running knee finisher and followed up shortly after by landing her own finisher, the Pop Rocks, to get the win.
There has been no official word from WWE on why the decision to move the match forward was made.
Grayson Waller, who won the men’s Iron Survivor Challenge at Deadline, is still scheduled to get his shot at Bron Breakker’s NXT Championship on January 10 as originally announced.
