Tonight’s April 25 episode of WWE SmackDown, the first episode since WrestleMania 41, played host to a title change.
For the past number of weeks, a persistent challenger had emerged for Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green.
That challenger was Zelina Vega, who beat Green in non-title matches the past two weeks, once by countout (which was reportedly a mistake as Green got counted out by accident), and once by pinfall.
Tonight, Vega finally got a title shot against Green and managed to come out with the win.
This makes Vega the second Women’s United States Champion, as Green had become the first ever champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December.
The win also marks Vega’s first singles championship win in WWE, and second overall.
She’d previously been WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion along with Carmella in 2021.
The Raw after WrestleMania this past Monday played host to a title change as well, as Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez won back the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship from Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria, which led to Lynch turning on Valkyria.
